The Best Routine for An American Bully puppy
American Bullies are the sweetest animals on the planet! They are like infants when you first get them so it is extremely important to create a routine that helps them adjust into their new home and fit into your life perfectly. Here is the best routine for your new puppy:
Morning:
Potty Time! Use pee-pads and close it off in a small area so you can prevent any unwanted accidents outside of the designated area. tell your puppy “potty” consistently so that way you can train them to the bathroom on command!
Provide your puppy with fresh water and a breakfast that fits their age/size!
Engage in some playtime or training session, such as teaching basic commands or working on leash training. training with a leash early on and getting them used to listening will save you a big headache in the future!
After the age of 16 weeks, when they have their full sets of shots, be sure to walk them for 15 minutes 3x a day!
Puppies typically potty after playing, resting for more than an hour, and especially after drinking/eating. Save yourself a headache by being overly cautious and letting them go potty as much as necessary.
Our rule of thumb is: a puppy can hold their potty for x amount of hours = to how many months old they are. (example) a 2 month old puppy = 2 hour wait time | 3 month old puppy = 3 hour wait time, etc. But never let your puppy hold their potty excessively because it can cause uti’s (Urinary tract infections)
Mid-Day:
Provide your puppy with fresh water and food!
More Play time and training (5-10 minutes)
Potty Time!
Alone time (Teach them to be ok without you)
Evening:
Fresh Water and Food
Play time and training (5-10 minutes)
Cuddle time
Potty breaks | we do this as much as needed before bed. Do not feed or give your puppy water within 3 hours of their bed time to prevent potty accidents at night.
Bed-time:
When a puppy is first at home and they are going to bed in their crate which is recommended, you should not give them attention if they are crying in the night because they will take that as a reward and continue the behavior! This is why it is important to let them potty before going to bed so you know they don’t have to use the restroom!
Be sure to adjust their routine as they get older and you can do more with your furry friend!
